Love them or hate them, pink lawn flamingos will be around for years to come. The birds’ demise was predicted when Union Products, the original maker of pink flamingos, went out of business. The flamingos got a new chance at life this summer when Union Products’ assets were acquired by HMC International.
The birds will continue to be produced at its
Rome,
N.Y., facility.
The pink flamingo was created in 1957 by Union Products designer Don Featherstone. He won the 1997 Ignoble Art Prize for his kitschy icon. More than 25 million flamingos have been sold since the product’s introduction.
HMC International’s sister company, Faster-Form Corp., will handle sales of this product line.
